Reproductively disadvantageous regions and archaic humans
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study regions where the populations do not fully reproduce themselves but depend on immigration to keep up the population size. We also study regions with a reproductive surplus that leads to migration. We will see that different demographic scenarios can give similar genetic data. Applications are given to some issues on archaic humans and bottlenecks in human populations.

Genes, Fossils, and Culture. An Overview of the Evidence for Neandertal–Modern Human Interaction and Admixture
This paper re-examines current arguments concerning the evidence for Neandertal–modern human interaction and admixture. While most researchers now agree that the ancestry of all present day humans can be traced back to African late Middle Pleistocene populations, at a time when the remainder of Eurasia was inhabited by ‘archaic humans’, most notably the Neandertals, issues that remain to be res...
متن کاملGenetic evidence for archaic admixture in Africa.
A long-debated question concerns the fate of archaic forms of the genus Homo: did they go extinct without interbreeding with anatomically modern humans, or are their genes present in contemporary populations? This question is typically focused on the genetic contribution of archaic forms outside of Africa. Here we use DNA sequence data gathered from 61 noncoding autosomal regions in a sample of...
متن کاملAnalysis of Human Accelerated DNA Regions Using Archaic Hominin Genomes
Several previous comparisons of the human genome with other primate and vertebrate genomes identified genomic regions that are highly conserved in vertebrate evolution but fast-evolving on the human lineage. These human accelerated regions (HARs) may be regions of past adaptive evolution in humans. Alternatively, they may be the result of non-adaptive processes, such as biased gene conversion. ...
متن کاملSignatures of Archaic Adaptive Introgression in Present-Day Human Populations
Comparisons of DNA from archaic and modern humans show that these groups interbred, and in some cases received an evolutionary advantage from doing so. This process-adaptive introgression-may lead to a faster rate of adaptation than is predicted from models with mutation and selection alone. Within the last couple of years, a series of studies have identified regions of the genome that are like...
متن کاملStudy of Modern Human Evolution via Comparative Analysis with the Neanderthal Genome
Many other human species appeared in evolution in the last 6 million years that have not been able to survive to modern times and are broadly known as archaic humans, as opposed to the extant modern humans. It has always been considered fascinating to compare the modern human genome with that of archaic humans to identify modern human-specific sequence variants and figure out those that made mo...
